Skill Up Workshops

What is a Skill Up workshop? If you want to access services, learn how to use a particular device, search for information quickly, save money or even improve your employment prospects, our Skill Up workshops are for you.  

Whatever your motive, your needs will be built into your workshop at a level which is right for you. These sessions are available at all MAES centres and in other community venues.  

Our 2024/25 Skill Up timetable will be made available in September.

Our courses are designed to develop your digital skills for work and everyday life. Before you start your course our team of tutors will carefully access your current skills to ensure you join a course at the right level for you.

Digital Nature is a two-day workshop which focuses on how to use your smartphone to capture the great outdoors. If you’re interested in learning how to use your phone to identify plants and birds, taking and organising photos and videos or appreciating nature and improving your wellbeing then this course is for you.

This is the course for you if you are starting out using devices and want to know the basics. This course will introduce you to different devices, develop your confidence and start you on your journey in using your digital skills and the internet more often.

If you are looking to develop your skills and knowledge in using Microsoft applications for work, then this course is for you. You will learn how to confidently use Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and file management for the workplace. You will also become more efficient using 365 and Teams.

This course is for you if you want to develop your digital skills for work and at home. You’ll learn how to use different devices for handling information, creating and editing, communicating, and transacting while remaining safe, secure and responsible online.

If you would like to learn about cybercrime and the risks and effects it has on individuals and organisations, this is the course for you! Understand forms of cybercrime and motives and know about protective methods to be cyber safe.

If you’re interested in the world of digital marketing, this introductory course will enable you to learn and explore the fundamentals of digital marketing and see if it’s the right career path for you. You will learn to improve your digital skills for the creation of digital marketing content and take the first steps towards a career in this sector.

With this course you can expect to learn about cybercrime and protective methods to be cyber safe. You will explore different forms of cybercrime and motives, while understanding the risks and effects it has on individuals and organisations.

This course is ideal if you have your own small business and want to develop your digital skills to promote it online, or if you’re considering a career in Digital Marketing. Learn about presentation software, make a career plan and design a social media marketing proposal/campaign.

This course will enhance your awareness of digital office essentials, developing your practical IT skills and building your working knowledge of common software applications, including spreadsheets, word processing and presentations.

The Level 3 Certificate in Networking and Cybersecurity has been designed by industry experts to prepare potential learners for job roles that require specific digital and IT skills within networking and cybersecurity. You will learn about project management, ethical hacking and more.

If you claim benefits or have a low income, we may be able to provide financial support to help you complete your course. This support can cover transport, childcare or technology. You can also choose to take out an advanced learner loan to help cover any fees associated with your course.
