If you would like to learn about basic and intermediate principles of computer programming to understand how programming works, this is the course for you.
You will develop your programming skills using Scratch, a graphic-based language, and Python, a widely-used text-based language, to design and develop your own computer programs.
On this course you will:
- Learn the basic principles of programming
- Design computer programmes (simple and in response to a client brief)
- Use Scratch and Python to develop your programmes, while gaining experience with professional-standard tools such as cloud-based Integrated Developer Environments (IDEs) and Git for source control, which helps you manage and track changes to your code.
- Test, document and review the programme
This course is delivered face-to-face in a classroom at our adult learning centres.
For this course, you will be required to create a portfolio of evidence meeting the assessment criteria for the qualification.
- You should have secure L1 practical IT skills and IT knowledge
- You must be able to speak, read and write English confidently (Level 1)
- You will ideally have access to a device (laptop or computer) at home. You can apply to our Chromebook loan system if you do not have a suitable device (depending on device availability)
Career and progression routes
After completing this course, you could broaden your range of skills by progressing onto a Level 3 JavaScript unit or introductory L3 Programming course. You could also progress to employment where you can apply your digital and IT knowledge and skills.
