All that is left now, is for us to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! We can’t wait to see you all in 2024.

It seems like technology advances so quickly, you barely have time to grasp one system before they’re already updating to the next. Phone complications, computer illiteracy and lack of data protection are all things that can be avoided through improving your digital skills.

An estimated 22% of individuals in the UK do not have the digital skills for everyday life.

With little time on many people’s hands, dedicating time between children and work to focus on learning how to improve digitally may be an idea you would sweep under the rug, but with efficient and tailored courses as well as understanding the importance of improving your digital skills opens new doors for many. Five basic digital skills are often outlined as: managing information, communicating, transacting, problem solving and creating. You can improve your awareness across or specifically at any of these points easily at home.

Computer literacy has become an increasingly important and sought after skill in the job sector, with a projection that 75% of jobs will require some level of digital skills by 2030. ‘Baseline’ digital skills, such as knowledge of use of Microsoft Word, are now looked for by numerous employers and this demand will only continue to grow. You, today, can easily grow this knowledge based on your entry level awareness and where you’d like to get to, as well as your time needs, online. Further, more advanced digital knowledge is also an increasingly sought after.

You may be comfortably in a job, unaware as to why digital skills may be of use to you, or already wanting to learn more to protect yourself online, or simply to help your online communication skills. With seemingly everything going digital, especially things like Online Banking, people are scared of the vulnerability of being online and knowing little about where information goes or how it can be viewed – start to learn how to protect your information or teach your children how to safely use the internet by improving your own digital skills. Don’t leave yourself vulnerable by using the internet with very little awareness about how your information may be used – but don’t exclude yourself from the growing digital age.

You shouldn’t be afraid of technology, or what the digital age might mean for you. Don’t be embarrassed to ask for help – you haven’t fallen behind and no-one is ‘too far gone’. So, want to know how to better use your computer, phone or tablet? Boost your literacy and confidence, and be able to feel secure and safe whilst online or when letting your children begin to act digitally; broaden your horizons for work and become a better candidate by easily improving your digital skills through a variety of online courses available to you today.

All that is left now, is for us to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! We can’t wait to see you all in 2024.

In a world moving at such a fast pace, it can be easy to feel as though you’re somehow falling behind others. Luckily, advancements in technology and knowledge now mean resources for learning are abundant, and educating yourself and furthering your qualifications as an adult has never been easier. Why limit the pursuit of knowledge to your school years? Education and the pursuit of knowledge has never been so centric in all walks of life.

As we start to move on from a post-lockdown world, improving your personal skills and career qualifications is key for growth in both the job sector and your personal life. Over 1.2 million adults are already participants in funded higher education programs, part of a steady rise.
Wanting to learn quickly, or scared there just won’t be something right for you? Hundreds of courses are available to meet a variety of needs – based on existing educational level or time availability. There are also a variety of options for face-to-face or online courses.

Adult education is available in many forms, including vocational courses, apprenticeships or training programs, for whatever suits you best. Courses to help prepare for work, improve digital skills and computer literacy or improve your language skills are all readily available to help improve your learning. Finding a course that is right for you has never been easier, and access to thousands of resources to boost your personal skills and qualifications opens further doors and opportunities for you in the future – enrich your adult life further by joining in with the learning age.

The learning age is about more than employment. Adult learning is no longer limited to small, untailored courses to meet niche knowledge gaps as a hobby. New technology has meant new opportunities for every adult to learn more, both concerning how to use new tech as well as knowledge on how to build it, depending on what you’re looking to learn.

With the rapid expansion of higher education for those freshly leaving school in the last decade, it’s unsurprising if many adults are left feeling as though they’ve missed out on an opportunity – but learning doesn’t have to stop when you’re young, or have been ‘out of the game’ for a while. Join millions in it today, and explore how you can find education programs that best suit you.

MAE annual Charitea event!

Learners and staff at Manchester Adult Education had a great time at our annual Charitea event!  The event took place during the week commencing 11 March 2019 across our Manchester Adult Education Learning Centres and raised funds for important charities: Ruth Hayman Trust and the local We Love MCR Charity.  MAE Learners sold food, jewellery, crafts and henna art as well as other activities including charity auctions and a sponsored head shave!

Thanks to all those who organised and attended this fantastic event!
