Course details
The Level 1 Award in Safeguarding in a Learning Environment qualification has been designed to develop your knowledge and understanding of issues around safeguarding to ensure that you are working in a safe and secure learning environment that promotes health and wellbeing.
On this course, you will study the following four mandatory units:
- Principles of safeguarding in a learning environment.
- Principles of staying safe online in a learning environment.
- Awareness of harassment and bullying in a learning environment.
- Awareness of abuse in a learning environment.
This course will be delivered online via Google Classroom, and as such, you will need access to a device (laptop or computer) at home. You can apply to our Chromebook loan system if you do not have a suitable device.
For this course, you will be required to create a portfolio of evidence meeting the assessment criteria for the qualification.
To be eligible for this course, you should have a minimum Entry 3 English and maths qualification or equivalent.

Following this course, you could be ready to join other professional development courses at Manchester Adult Education, such as the Level 2 Certificate in Safeguarding, Prevent and British Values or the Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Behaviour that Challenges.
You will also be able to use your newfound understanding and skills within your current role.
