Course details
If you’re just starting out using devices and want to know the basics, then this course is for you. It will introduce you to different devices, develop your confidence and start you on your journey in using your digital skills more often.
You will also learn more about email, the internet and how to stay safe online.
Digital Skills for Beginners includes the following topics:
- knowing and using the main features of different devices (smartphones, tablets, laptops, computers)
- searching for information online
- knowing and understanding terminology related to webpages
- managing and storing information
- recognising and solving problems with systems, applications and connection.
This course is delivered face-to-face in a classroom at our adult learning centres.
This course has no formal qualifications however, you will receive a Manchester Adult Education Service Certificate of Attendance.
Digital skills are not required to join this course. This course is for those with no or little prior experience of using digital devices or the internet. However, you will ideally have access to a device they can use at home, but this may not be the case for beginner learners.
You must be able to speak, read, and write English confidently.

Following this course, you could be ready to join the Entry 3/Level 1 Digital Essentials course with us.
Alternatively, you can continue to develop your new digital skills at our Skill Up Workshops or choose to develop your Microsoft skills and knowledge.
You will also find that you’re able to carry out everyday tasks much more effectively and efficiently with your new improved digital skills.
