Course details
The aim of the Level 1 Award in Counselling Skills is to give you an introduction to counselling skills in preparation for further learning or training. You will develop essential active listening skills needed in life or at work.
On this course, you will be required to complete the following units:
- Introducing Counselling Skills
- Using Counselling Skills to help others
This course is delivered face-to-face in a classroom at our adult learning centres.
You will access materials and complete assignments via Google Classroom.
For this course, you will be required to create a portfolio of evidence meeting the assessment criteria for the qualification and some assessed skills practice where you take it in turns to be a counsellor, a client and an observer.
To be accepted into this course, you are required to have a minimum level 1 English qualification.
You will also need access to a device (laptop or computer) at home. You can apply to our Chromebook loan system if you do not have a suitable device.
Career and progression routes
After completing this course, you could be ready to join the Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills with MAES.
