Community Interpreting
Community Interpreting allows you to help others in your local community develop their skills and overcome language barriers that they face in everyday situations.
Through these courses you will learn all the terminology and techniques involved in interpreting, practise and improve your interpreting skills.
Develop your skills: Joining a community interpreting course can help to develop skills including language proficiency, cultural competency, and communication skills. All of which can help you to become a more effective interpreter.
Networking: This type of course gives you opportunities to network with other likeminded people in your field – helping you to build connections which can lead to new job opportunities, mentorship and professional growth.
Increased career opportunities: By successfully completing a course in Community Interpreting, you can open yourself up to lots of career opportunities in sectors such as social services, immigration, local Government and charities.

Our community interpreting courses are designed to develop your skills and knowledge so that you’re able to succeed gaining employment or progress on to higher level courses. Before you start your course our team of tutors will carefully access your current skills to ensure you join a course at the right level for you.
Through Community Interpreting (Stage 1) you will cover the basics of community interpreting, where it is needed, what ‘good practice’ means. You will also have the chance to practice your interpreting skills.

The Community Interpreting (Stage 2) course gives more advanced interpreting practice, assesses your interpreting abilities, and can provide a qualification to help you gain employment.

This course is aimed at adults who are interested in developing the skills required to become an interpreter/translator who already have level 3 language skills in English and another community language.

MAES has eight education centres spread across Manchester. With majority of our learners living within 10 minutes of our centres, we’re confident we’ll be able to cater to your education needs where you are.
If you claim benefits or have a low income, we may be able to provide financial support to help you complete your course. This support can cover transport, childcare or technology. If you’re required to pay for your course, you can also choose to take out an advanced learner loan to help cover any associated fees.
