Course details
The Level 1 Certificate in Introduction to Health, Social Care and Children’s and Young People’s settings will develop your knowledge and awareness of the types of provision in the Health, Social Care and Children’s and Young People’s sectors. You will cover topics such as the roles played by workers, principles and values, health and safety and working with others.
On this course you will complete the following seven mandatory units:
- Understand the Range of Service Provision and Roles Within Health and Social Care (Adults and Children and Young People), Early Years and Childcare
- Introductory Awareness of Person-Centred Support in Health, Social Care and Children’s and Young People’s Settings
- Understand the Principles and Values in Health and Social Care (Adults and Children and Young People), Early Years and Childcare
- Introductory Awareness of Equality and Inclusion in Health, Social Care and Children’s and Young People’s Settings
- Awareness of Protection and Safeguarding in Health and Social Care (Adults and Children and Young People), Early Years and Childcare
- Introduction to Communication in Health and Social Care (Adults and Children and Young People), Early Years and Childcare
- Introductory Awareness of Health and Safety in Health, Social Care and Children’s and Young People’s Settings.
This course is delivered face-to-face in a classroom at our adult learning centres.
For this course, you will be required to create a portfolio of evidence meeting the assessment criteria for the qualification.
To be eligible for this course, you must have an Entry 3 English and maths qualification.

Career and progression routes
After completing this course, you could be ready to progress on to higher level health and social care courses, including the Level 2 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care with MAES or tailor your learning and study other specialised Level 2 qualifications in health, social care or children’s settings.
This course also allows you to gain the knowledge, understanding and skills required for employment and/or career progression in this sector.
