If you’re a new or aspiring manager who is looking to upskill and increase your knowledge so you can successfully lead a team, this course is for you.
Our Level 2 Certificate in the Principles of Team Leading course will help to expand your knowledge on team leading, and how a business operates and improve your communication skills.
The Level 2 Certificate in the Principles of Team Leading is made up of eight mandatory units:
Principles of team leading: In this unit you will explore the various leadership styles, the impact of team dynamics as well as the techniques that are essential to effectively manage a team’s workload.
Understand business: Throughout this unit, you will develop an understanding of the different organisational structures and the business environment. You will gain knowledge of the principles of business planning and finance, business reporting, management responsibilities and accountabilities within an organisation.
Understand how to communicate work-related information: In this third unit, you will learn the principles and techniques behind work-related communication through both verbal and written forms and understand the range of documents required for different types of meetings in a business environment.
Understand how to manage performance and conflict in the workplace: Whilst studying this unit, you will discover how to manage team performance through benchmarking, as well as how to manage underperformance within a team and conflict in the workplace.
Principles of equality and diversity in the workplace: This unit will explore themes of equality and diversity in the workplace, including the potential consequences of failing to comply with the relevant legislation.
Understand how to develop working relationships with colleagues: This unit will look at the principles of effective teamwork and how to be a ‘buddy’. You will also cover the benefits of effective team working, how to give feedback constructively and the techniques that may be used to resolve team conflict.
Understand health and safety procedures in the workplace: In this unit you will identify the main health and safety responsibilities and laws affecting the workplace as well as the employers’ and employees’ responsibilities in relation to health and safety and the support that is available for employees.
Understand how to develop and deliver a presentation: In this final unit, you will explore the development and delivery of presentations and discover the advantages and limitations of various forms of media. You will also look at the factors affecting contingency plans and consider different ways to evaluate presentations.
This course will be delivered online via Google Classroom and as such you will need access to a device (laptop or computer) at home. You can apply to our Chromebook loan system if you do not have a suitable device.
For this course, you will be required to create a portfolio of evidence meeting the assessment criteria for the qualification.
To be eligible for this course, you must have a Level 1 English and maths qualification.
You will also need to be digitally confident to attend online classes and complete assignments throughout the course.
Career and progression routes
Following this course, you could choose to further your learning by joining a Level 3 Certificate in Principles of Leadership and Management with MAES.
You will also be able to use your newfound understanding and skills within your current role or to progress on to a more senior role in the same industry or another sector. Roles could include a team leadership role in any sector or front-line management.
