This course provides the essential knowledge required to successfully work in a range of settings in a business admin role.
You will learn how to carry out vital administrative tasks and how this new knowledge and skills can then be applied to a range of industries and job roles.
The Level 2 Certificate in the Principles of Business Administration is made up of seven mandatory units.
Principles of providing administrative services: This unit will develop your knowledge of a range of administrative support tasks, meeting types, mail services and how to organise travel and accommodation. You will also learn about the impact of delivering poor customer service.
Principles of business document production and information management: By studying this unit, you’ll gain an understanding of how to prepare and distribute business documents as well as discover how information is managed in business organisations.
Understand employer organisations: In this unit you will learn about different organisational structures and the organisational environment.
Understand communication in a business environment: This unit will explore written and verbal business communication within a business environment as well as other important communication such as body language.
Principles of developing working relationships with colleagues: In unit five, you will explore principles of effective teamwork and how to ‘buddy’ a colleague.
Exploring social media: The sixth unit of this course covers the opportunities and threats associated with using social media and the application of social media within a business.
Safe use of online and social media platforms: In the final unit, you will look at the safe use of social media platforms, how to adopt appropriate security methods to safeguard systems and data, threats on the internet and how to protect online devices from online security attacks and fraud. You will also learn about the implications of entering personal information onto social media sites and the legal measures that address the protection of data.
This course is delivered via blended learning. You will attend sessions face to face in one of our adult learning centres as well as attending some online classes.
For this course you will be required to create a portfolio of evidence meeting the assessment criteria for the qualification.
To be eligible for this course, you must have a Level 2 English and maths qualification.
You will also need access to a laptop or PC and be digitally confident to attend online classes and complete assignments throughout the course. You can apply to our Chromebook loan system if you do not have a suitable device.
Career and progression routes
After completing this course, you could be ready to progress on to another course with MAES which makes use of your good digital skills and background knowledge of social media, such as the Level 2 Award in Digital Marketing.
This course also allows you to gain the knowledge, understanding and skills required for employment and/or career progression in a business administration role. Jobs could include:
