Course details
The role of an Operations Manager can be found in a variety of private, public and third-party organisations. They carry out leadership and management duties with their teams or the senior leaders in which they report to ensure that the organisation meet its strategic objectives.
In the role of Operations Manager, an individual with interact with colleagues from across all areas of the business including operations, human resources, finance, legal, IT, sales and marketing, as well external stakeholders.

Throughout the course you’ll learn a vast range of knowledge, skills and behaviours (KSBs).
The KSBs developed on this apprenticeship follow those of the Level 5 Operations Manager apprenticeship training programme.

The course is structured with four weeks per unit:
- Masterclass (theory based lecture/webinar)
- Application (independent learning to put theory into practice or prepare for workshop)
- Workshop (practical activities, group discussion, skills practice etc)
- Evidence generation (put learning into practice to generate evidence in the workplace).
You will be required to attend Abraham Moss once a month for a teaching session. You will also recieve remote support according to organisational requirements.
This apprenticeship has two assessment methods.
You will be required to write a 4000 word report about a business project.
Assessment method two consists of delivering a presentation (60 minutes total) which includes questioning time from an independent assessor.
You will also need to create a portfolio of evidence meeting the assessment criteria for the qualification. This portfolio will be both internally assessed.
To be eligible for this course, you should have:
- Have a minimum Level 2 English and Maths qualification
- Direct line management of at least two people and report to Senior Leaders
- Currently work in a role that allows you to demonstrate the Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours of a Level 5 Operations Manager
- Be able to commit to the full length of the programme and be able to meet the programme modules through your job role.
The apprenticeship is fully funded using the apprenticeship levy.
If you’re a small and medium enterprise (SME), the Level 5 Operations Manager Apprenticeship can be funded on the following conditions:
- The organisation needs to be Manchester based/employ someone to work in Manchester.
- The company must be a living wage employer – as a council we have committed to employers paying this.

After completing this course, you will have stronger skills and experience to help you succeed in your role.
You may progress onto a different role or pursue another qualification in a similar field. Typical job roles include:

- Specialist Manager
- Senior Manager
Upon successful completion of this apprenticeship, you will also recieve a full qualification equivalent to a foundation degree. You’ll also be eligible to pursue Foundation Chartered Manager (fCMgr) or Chartered Manager (CMgr) status with the Chartered Management Institute (CMI).
