We value our volunteers and we want to make sure that you to enjoy your time with us. By donating your time, skills, and expertise, you’ll be supporting people to learn, build their confidence and develop their skills.

There are also a number of other benefits, both personally and professionally, that you could gain by becoming a volunteer including:

  • Making a difference: You’ll be able to get directly involved in the success of our learners who are looking to improve their lives through adult education.
  • Gaining experience: Volunteering allows you gain hands-on experience in the adult education sector which you can then use on your CV and future job applications. As part of our promise to you, we will give you a reference after three months of continuous and reliable volunteering with us.
  • Enhancing your own skills: Communication, leadership, problem solving and adaptability are all skills you can learn through volunteering.
  • Expanding your networks: You will be invited to attend Volunteer networking and training sessions, as well as events recognising your contribution to our service.
  • Tutoring and mentoring: You will be provided with dedicated mentoring support from a nominated member of staff at MAES.

How can I get involved?

We are currently offering the following volunteer opportunities:

Classroom support volunteer – You will provide additional support to learners who attend our classes under the supervision of the class teacher.

Conversation Club volunteer (Talk English only) – Alongside other volunteers, you will facilitate activities in one of our Conversation Clubs, helping learners to develop their speaking and listening skills in English. You will be supervised by the Conversation Club leader.

Whatever role you take on, and whatever your reasons for getting involved, your time, energy and skills are vital to what we do.
