Course details
This qualification is a short introduction for anyone considering working in the voluntary sector. It is also suitable for anyone already working in a voluntary organisation who wishes to formalise and further develop their existing experience and skills.
Volunteering supports the development of key skills, knowledge and experience for future employment. Volunteering will support you if you are looking for a career change.
Unit 1: Explore Volunteering and Ways to Become a Volunteer
You will look at the commitment required and benefits of volunteering. You will explore the types of organisation in which people can volunteer and the purpose and functions of those organisations. You will also examine the skills required to become a volunteer and understand how to develop new and existing skills. You will look at how to become a volunteer or move from volunteering to paid employment.
Unit 2: Personal Standards and Requirements for Working in a Volunteer Role
You will examine the importance of meeting personal standards, rules and instructions, behaviour and customer care. You will also identify equal opportunities and safety requirements. You will also review your own performance on a volunteer activity.
This course is delivered face-to-face in a classroom at our adult learning centres.
For this course you will be required to create a portfolio of evidence meeting the assessment criteria for the qualification.
To be eligible for this course, you will need good digital skills to be able to complete assessments for your portfolio. You should also be able to demonstrate Level 2 English skills and have experience of using a computer and/or laptop and the internet.
You will also need access to a device (laptop or computer) at home. You can apply to our Chromebook loan system if you do not have a suitable device.
In addition to the above, you should have an interest in the subject area for your professional development/career transfer.
Career and progression routes
After completing the Level 1 Award in Volunteering, you can progress on to a higher-level volunteering qualification or look to join a volunteer role where you can apply your skills and knowledge.
You could also progress to employment where you can apply your skills, knowledge and experience.
