Course details
GCSE Maths is a course which places problem-solving at the heart of mathematics learning.
On this course, you will develop fluent knowledge, skills and understanding of mathematical methods and concepts, be able to apply mathematical techniques to solve problems and comprehend, interpret and communicate mathematical information in a variety of forms appropriate to the information and context.
On this course, you will study the following mandatory units:
- Number
- Algebra
- Ratio, proportion and rates of change
- Geometry and measures
- Probability
- Statistics
This course is delivered face-to-face in our adult learning centres.
You will access materials and complete assignments via Google Classroom and a variety of online platforms, including the Mathswatch learning platform.
At the end of this course, you will sit an exam which will test the knowledge and skills you have learnt, resulting in a nationally recognised qualification if achieved.
There are no previous qualifications needed to access the GCSE English course; however, you will be required to complete an assessment to ensure you have the skills to join and succeed on the course.
In addition to the above, you will also have access to a device (laptop or computer) at home. You can apply to our Chromebook loan system if you do not have a suitable device.
Career and progression routes
Following this course, you could be ready to join any of our Level 3 courses including the Level 3 Maths in Context and take your learning to the next level. You may wish to kick off a career in a specific field such health and social care, education or teaching.
You may also be able to secure employment or advance in your current career with your improved maths knowledge and skills.
