The Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training is designed for those who already teach or train adults or aspiring educators who are just beginning their journey into teaching and training in the Further Education (FE) and Skills sector.
This qualification provides a strong foundation in teaching practice, learning theory, and professional development, preparing you to teach in a range of post-16 settings.
You will be able to understand the key roles and responsibilities of a teacher or trainer and explore a variety of important areas such as legislation, equality and diversity, meeting learners’ needs, using assessment, and creating inclusive learning resources.
This course includes a blend of mandatory and optional units, covering:
- Understanding roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training – Explore the professional boundaries and responsibilities of educators, including safeguarding, equality and diversity, and legislation.
- Planning to meet the needs of learners – Learn how to design inclusive learning plans that support diverse learner needs and promote progression.
- Delivering education and training – Gain practical experience in delivering engaging and effective lessons, both face-to-face and online.
- Assessing learners – Understand different methods of assessment and how to use feedback to support learner development.
- Using resources effectively – Develop and adapt teaching resources to meet learner needs and embed English, maths, and digital skills.
This course is delivered face-to-face at one of our adult learning centres, with opportunities for blended learning. You’ll engage in:
- Interactive workshops
- Teaching practice
- Group discussions
- Peer feedback
- Online learning activities
The course consists of one weekly 3-hour session face to face in one of our centres plus a suitable teaching placement which you will need to arrange before you begin the course.
You’ll build a portfolio of evidence that meets the qualification’s assessment criteria. Assessment methods include:
- Teaching observations
- Assignments
- Presentations
- Professional discussions
- Reflective journals.
You must complete and evidence a minimum of 30 hours teaching. You will be observed teaching for at least 3 hours on three occasions.
You will be offered tutorials during the course. These are 1-to-1 meetings with your tutor aimed at supporting you and your learning needs.
To be eligible for this course, you should have:
- A minimum Level 2 qualification in English and maths
- A subject specialism or relevant occupational experience
- A minimum of 30 hours of teaching practice (placement required)
- A DBS check
- Access to a laptop or computer (Chromebook loan available)
The total fee is £811 paid using the Government Advanced Learner Loan if required.
You’ll only start making repayments on your Advanced Learner Loan when your income is over £524 a week, £2,274 a month or £27,295 a year. If your income falls below these thresholds, repayments will stop and only re-start when your income is over these thresholds.
This fee includes registration with the awarding body.
